Clay Hendricks

Clay Gail Hendricks, 82, passed away Monday, August 24th, 2026 at Legacy Estate Long Term Care in Comanche, Texas. He was born April 11, 1944, in Baytown, Texas to Clay G. and Naomi (Eckert) Hendricks. He was the youngest of 4 siblings.

Clay was raised in a small community in Channelview, Texas, where he went to school and later worked at various jobs. He enjoyed his employment most at ADT, as an alarm installer and investigator, where he was employed for 15years. He loved westerns, especially John Wayne, hot rods, old black and white movies and was a big fan of Dallas Cowboys.

He was a free spirit of sorts, with many interest and hobbies which included operating a ham radio. His interest in music was also diverse. He enjoyed classical, the Beatles, other old and new rock and roll and heavy metal music.

Clay was large in stature with an even bigger heart for others, especially children and animals. he had a whit and humor that was apparent to many. His big heart and humor was shown by the pet names he would affectionately give others and by all the animals he had cared for in his lifetime. He had many pets over the years. Some of his favorites were his dogs, Laddy, and a black poodle named Sam.

He was brought up in the Church of Christ faith. His values and beliefs that were most important to him was his faith in God and his country.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his three older sisters, who lovingly adored and doted on him, Fayne Matchett, Billie Mae Jenkins, and Mona Jean McGuffin. Also preceding him in death was an infant brother, James Victor Hendricks.

He was survived by many nephews and nieces, great and great, great nephews and nieces and friends who loved him.

His loved ones are very thankful for the care he received and the friends he made while at Legacy Estates and Western Hills Healthcare, where he had spend the last years of his life due to declining health.

A memorial service to celebrate Clay's life will be held at Legacy Estate Long Term Care, 10133 Hwy 16N, on Thursday, September 10th at 10 a.m.

He will be laid to rest at a later date in a private ceremony with other family.
