Doris Bates

Doris Ann Bates, born Doris Ann Armstrong, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 31, 2025.

She was born on January 15, 1950, at Blackwood Hospital in Comanche, Texas, to Samuel Boyce Armstrong and Charlsie Tearesa Clark Armstrong. Doris was raised in DeLeon, Texas, where she attended DeLeon High School.

A devoted mother and homemaker, Doris dedicated her life to caring for her family. Throughout the years, she also worked various odd jobs, always willing to help wherever she was needed. Her life took her from Gustine, Texas, to Camden, Tennessee, and eventually back to the Comanche area she called home.

Doris was a member of Gustine Baptist Church and found great comfort in her faith. While at home, she enjoyed listening to Jimmy Swaggart Ministries and enjoyed music of many kinds. Above all else, Doris dearly loved her family, particularly her grandchildren, and never missed an opportunity to support them-proudly cheering them on from the stands. Family gatherings were especially dear to her and brought her great joy.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Delyn Mankin and husband Bill Mankin of Comanche; her sons, Claude Isbell III, known as Bucky, of Hohenwald, Tennessee, and Michael Jason Solomon of Abilene; her brother, Robert Armstrong and wife Anita Armstrong; four grandsons, Bryce Hutchins, Hayden Hutchins, Wyatt Mankin, and Cassius Mankin; four granddaughters, Kearstin Isbell, Alexis Isbell, Ericka Himes, and Mya McDonald; and two great-granddaughter, Sawyer Hutchins and Weslynn Hine; nieces and a nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Boyce Armstrong and Charlsie Teresa Clark Armstrong; her brother, Richard Armstrong; and her son, Anthony Deon Solomon.

Graveside services are pending and will be held at Union Cemetery in Gustine, Texas.
