Obituary for Edith Matthews Day
Edith Matthews Day, 75, of Comanche, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 15, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Edith was born on December 11, 1949, in Comanche, Texas, to James Clifford "Pete" and Ennie Price Matthews. She grew up in Comanche and graduated from Comanche High School in 1968. Shortly after graduation, Edith married the love of her life, Travis Day, on August 24, 1968. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around faith, family, and love.
Edith was a devoted member of East Side Baptist Church, where she faithfully served and lived out her faith through kindness and generosity. She was known for her kind heart and outgoing personality. Edith especially loved cooking and baking for her family, and her famous Christmas cookies were a beloved tradition that brought everyone together year after year.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Ennie Matthews, father and mother in-law Vestal and Iun Day. Her brother-in-laws, Gary Hamrick, Darwin Hamrick, Tom Loftin, and sister-in-law, Glynda Lane.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 57 years, Travis Day; her children, Stephanie Lewis and husband Jeff, Dana Oskins and husband Jeremy, Jason Day and wife Jennifer. Her brother, Tommy Matthews and wife Barbara; sisters Verba Hamrick, Linda Thompson and husband Jamie;Brother in-law; Jimmy Lane, Sister-in-law Katherine Loftin, Brother in-law Mark "W.M." Day and wife Lexi, and Sister-in-law Carolyn Hamrick.
Edith's greatest joy was being "Granny" to her grandchildren, who all held a special place in her heart. Scott Lewis, Matthew Lewis and wife Chandler, Kristin O'Connor and fiancé Josh Newton, Ashleigh Pinkerton and husband Mason, Landrie Wallace and husband Zane, Lynzie Day, Lacie Day. Bonus grandchildren: Holly, Haily, Heidi, Victoria, Kayden and Strait; many nieces and nephews.
She was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Lynnleigh, Livvy, Ella, Oaklyn, Olivia, JJ, and Nolan.
The family requests donations be made to The Parkinson's Foundation in Edith's memory.
