Gary Mast

February 16, 1967 — November 17, 2025

Gary Wayne Mast, age 58, passed away on November 17, 2025. Born on February 16, 1967, in Kermit, Texas, Gary was the son of Robert Mast and Sonja Robertson. From an early age, he carried with him a strong sense of loyalty, courage, and unwavering dedication to the people and places he loved.

Gary proudly served for many years in the Sheriff's Posse, where he found purpose in helping his community and joy in the long trail rides that brought him peace. His bravery was perhaps most profoundly shown during the devastating 2011 wildfires at Possum Kingdom Lake. Gary fought tirelessly against the flames, refusing to stop as he worked to save as many homes as he could. His determination and selflessness during that time will forever stand as a testament to his remarkable character.

A lifelong truck driver, Gary's commitment to safety and professionalism earned him countless awards and recognitions, including the rare honor of achieving one million miles of safe driving-and later surpassing an incredible five million miles. He drove for companies such as Walmart, Wilson Art, and Landstar, always taking pride in his work and the long roads that stretched out before him.

Some of Gary's happiest miles were shared with his son, Ethan, who followed in his footsteps as a truck driver. Together they traveled through the mountains of Wyoming, watching sunsets from the cab and building memories that will endure for a lifetime. Gary also held a uniquely tender love for his daughter, Katy-his jewel. Though he was seen outwardly as tough and hard man, he melted instantly in her presence and beamed with pride. She brought out a gentleness in him that only she could accomplish.

Gary lived a life defined by grit, loyalty, love, and a steadfast spirit. He will be remembered for his fierce work ethic, his bold heart, love for his family and friends.

Gary is proceeded in death by his father Robert, his mother Sonja, and his brother Kent. He leaves behind his son Ethan and wife Ashley, his daughter Kaytlan and her husband Bo, his 4 grandchildren Conner, Alexis, Oaklie and Swayzie, and his brother Jason and many loved ones, friends, and fellow drivers who will forever carry his memory down every road they travel.

May he rest in peace, knowing his miles were well-driven and his legacy will be deeply cherished.
