Peggy Jo Huett Pirkle passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026. She was born on September 25, 1932, in Comanche, Texas, to Clarence Lee and Isla Isham Huett.
She graduated from Comanche High School in 1950 and that same year she married the love of her life, Gyale C. Pirkle. Together, they attended the University of Texas in Austin, where Peggy worked in the University History Department and later for the Texas National Guard. After returning to Comanche, she earned a master's degree in Eduction and devoted herself to teaching elementary school.
Peggy's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She accepted Christ at the age of six and a half and remained a devoted follower throughout her life. She began playing piano for Sunday School at just 12 years old and went on to serve as pianist and organist at First Baptist Church for 26 years. Even after retiring from her church role, she continued sharing her gift of music by playing piano at Whitestone Assisted Living for ten years.
A women of service and compassion, Peggy founded Comanche's first food pantry in 1988 and faithfully operated it for several years. Her dedication to her community earned her recognition as Woman of the Year is 1990 bt the Comanche Chamber of Commerce. She was also a past officer of the Comanche Art Association and a charter member and president of the Comanche Hospital Auxiliary. That same year, she joined her husband in working as pharmacy aide for six clinics of Cross Timbers Community Health Centers, where she served for 22 years.
Peggy and Gyale shared a beautiful love story- he would hitchhike from Lubbock every weekend just to see her. Their marriage was filled with joy, faith, and devotion, and they were richly blessed with three sons: Kent, Mark, and Stan, all of whom they loved dearly. They were married for almost 76 years.
Peggy is survived by her sons Kent, Mark ( and Pat), and Stan; her grandchildren Laci and Zachary Archer, Elizabeth Pirkle, Holly and Michael Wagner, Abigail Pirkle, Megan and Ryan Wellott, Jessica and Kris Whitehead, and Nathan Pirkle; as well as ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Peggy will be remembered for her unwavering faith, servant's heart, and the love she poured into her family and community. She was known for her quick wit and effortless sense of humor. she lived for 93 1/2 years.
