Wayne Power

Wayne Power, 83, a native of Comanche County, completed his earthly journey in the early hours of Monday, August 10, 2026. His passing brought to a close a fruitful life of love, devotion, stewardship, and nurturance of all that he held dear.

Wayne's life's work was centered in the agriculture industry in Comanche, Eastland, and Brown counties. Devoted to the land upon which he walked, Wayne continually sought to do all he could to make life better for his community, his family, and for anyone whose path crossed his.

Born April 19, 1943 in Gorman to Ezra and Gladys Matthews Power, Wayne grew up on the family farm in Comanche County. He began his commitment to the land while in the sixth grade, starting at that young age to farm under the guidance of his father.

Later, after 41 years as a peanut producer in the sandy soil of Comanche County, and achieving one of the highest average yields of dry-land peanuts, Wayne changed the focus of his operation to cattle, silage, and wheat.

His investment in the agricultural life of his community led to the development of many friendships, and allowed him the opportunity to mentor other younger farmers, following the example set before him by his father.

Wayne and Karen married July 17, 1985, recently celebrating 41 years together. In 2002 Wayne's farming and ranching involvement gradually spread to Eastland and Brown Counties as Wayne purchased acreage that he wanted to farm because "it has such good soil". In 2007 he and Karen moved to Rising Star where Wayne enjoyed many more years of growing Tifton Bermuda grass, wheat, and continuing his cattle operation. Wayne's love and use of horses throughout his life gave him many entertaining stories to share with friends and family. Wayne's Christian faith was vitally important to him, and guided him through every endeavor of his life. A lifelong Baptist, Wayne was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rising Star. Wayne's devotion to his family was evident to all who knew him. Taking pride in his grandchildren and introducing them to his love of land and livestock was a passion of his.

Wayne is survived by his wife Karen; his children Jeff Power and wife Lois, Vanessa Power, and Leslie Boley and husband Curtis; his grandchildren Jordan LaCombe and husband Andrew, Jancen Power, Jaxon Boley and ZoeKate Boley; and his great grandchildren Anson LaCombe and Augden LaCombe. His brother-in- law James Steel and sister-in-law Margie Power. Also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
